The New York State Department of Transportation suggests the following, among other things:
- Select your movers with care and make sure they are licensed by the Commissioner of Transportation.
- It is important to understand the mover's liability. Get an explanation of the mover's liability and ask if you can purchase additional coverage.
- Never use an unlicensed mover.
- Make sure to read any document presented to you before signing it, and keep a copy of everything you sign.
- Every commercial vehicle needs to be inspected every 12 months, you can make sure that the vehicle passed the required inspection by a decal or sticker which must be kept in the vehicle at all times.
